Trimet, the public transport agency of Portland, Oregon, will test BYD's electric bus for two weeks, starting Monday, June 23rd. There will be a demonstration/test ride on Friday, June 20th, 2014.
The zero-emissions, American-made bus will run on various TriMet routes between June 23 and July 3, providing extra trips between scheduled service on weekdays. (It doesn’t have a fare box, so rides will be free!)
According to the press release on the Web site, the bus is made in the U.S.
By the way, there is the "Buy America Act" (49 USC SS 5323) that established requirements intended to give preference to the use of domestically produced materials on any procurements funded at least in part by federal funds. Simply speaking, the agencies should buy American-made products over importing from foreign countries.
