MD-95 is the orginal design of B717... But the project was being taken over as Boeing took over 麥道...
The last MD-11 was for LH and was a cargo jet... Which should have been deliveried at around 2000...
*Qantas didnt order B717 directly, they have received B717 as they take over Impulse Airlines and later buy those TWA B717 as AA took over TWA and B717 no longer suitable for AA fleet...
B717 is really not a successful model as there is already B737-600/A318 in the market which provide more cabin space and also CRJ-900/EMB190 which is similar to B717 but newer design as B717 is base on 1980's MD-95...

Jetstar果批717乜唔係響Qantas到轉過黎?
Jetstar is Australia's new low fares airline. Our aim is to provide consistent low fares to Australian and New Zealand leisure travellers.
We started flying on the 25th May, 2004 and offer customers a simple and fresh travel experience.
Jetstar is using the previous low cost airline Impulse as its operating entity. After Qantas purchased Impulse, the airline remained a separate entity flying under the QantasLink brand.
The selection of Impulse as the vehicle for Jetstar allowed us to get Jetstar off the ground faster. The Impulse brand has been replaced by Jetstar.
Jetstar is wholly owned by Qantas but is managed separately and operates independently. Our headquarters is in Melbourne.
Jetstar launched its first services in May 2004 operating a fleet of 14 Boeing 717-200 aircraft.
