Currently I am doing an assignment on reviewing SWOT analysis, can you tell the Strengths, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat of Cathay Pacific, with reasons?
My answers are:
S: Quality services + Good codeshare network + "young" equipments (not sure)
W: not enough long-haul equipment (not sure) + High price
O: ??
T: Direct flights between Taiwan and China + Bird Flu / SARS
Welcome to discuss and this topic is also post at A7.

This is my opinion....
Strengths:
-Keep more expansion for the regional services: u may see the expansion in the regional areas are still processing.....
-Arrived on time: The flight of CX is usually on time arrival
Weakness:
- Not enough Long Haul Services: Some of the long haul flights are always 100% Full
- Food quality (Occasionally): That's happening occasionally
- The environment of Long Haul Equipment: Apprently the current A340 and B744 both of them have their weakness, B744 still have a little bit noisy, A340 have a narrow cabin to affect the comfort.......
No.. no... "opportunity" is relating to EXTERNAL environment of the company, not your opportunity!
Please note oil price is on a downward trend recently!!
Let me add some points:
S: CX's Hong Kong hub is in the centre of North-East Asia;
W: Quite conservative in expansion (i.e. must have strong cash in hand...), when compared to major carriers nearby (e.g. Singapore Airlines that's the 1st one to buy A380!!);
O: Open sky policy....
T: ... from nearby airports in China; and Low-cost alrlines

Personally, I think open sky policy should be a threat for CX as well..
I would like to add some more points:
S: loyalty scheme
W: high running cost
O: 由英國飛美國的航權開放, 中國航空市長擴展
T: 廉價航空公司的加入, 做成激烈競爭
你讀緊 Strategic Analysis 想問CX 的 SWOT
用 Protor's 5 Forces 想下...
Strength: Located in HKG, Center of Asia, Loyal Customers
Weakness: No small aircraft, poor network in growing China
Opportunities: Recent gain of rights to China
Threats: LCC competition, high fuel cost
Some of you said CX didn't expand the China marketing, but what I think is CX is a shareholder of KA, so it is no need to fly to small China cities (eg Harbin).
However, CX really wants to go to PVG, right?
I think CX should at least go to small large cities, but I am not very clear the chinese avaition policies, so anyone ca help.
ps. What is 航權 is English?
Is the Taiwan route important to CX, can anyone give some data on this route?

Is it Protor's 5 Forces or Porter's 5 Forces?
Because I search Protor's 5 Forces and seems not relevant.
