The start of a new 'series' from me, desribing and providing photos+multimedia of vehicles which some members are not fortunate enough to travel on!
Starting off with the Leyland Lynx Mk1
Derived from the Leyland National chassis, but the lynx never sold in such great quantities as the National
Chassis + Body:
Integral built by Leyland.
Air Suspension
Engine:
Availible from new with Gardner 6HLXB or Leyland TL11 engine - Only a few months after initial release the 6HLXB engine was dropped as an option and replaced with Cummins L10. The Leyland TL11 engine was dropped around 1987 leaving just the Cummins L10 engine.
Gearbox:
Availible from new with either Leyland 5 speed Hydracyclic or ZF 5-speed Automatic
Images:
Withdrawn, missing gearbox and various small body parts
I love the lynx, especially the Mark I type.
Due to the maintenance quality of First, First Bristol have to withdrawn many of them with immediate effect by VOSP. The final 3 Lynx allocated between 3 depots and they are expected off-road by November.
However, there are number of Lynx still with First Somerset & Avon's operation in Bristol, North Somerset and Somerset area, and I think there's a small number with First Hampshire & Dorset.
The other bus operator- South Gloucestershire Bus & Coach operates a number of Mk 1 & 2 and in excellent conditions. Those Lynxs owned by SGBC were from Arriva, Stagecoach (via Ensign sale) and TWM
