You may choose to take Gatwick Express which's a non-stop service linking you up directly from London VIctoria to Gatwick in 30 mins
If you gonna take the Southern service, most probably you have to change once at East Croydon
In terms of connection services, I don't think taking the Piccadilly line is a good option
Not all westbound Piccadilly line trains terminate at Heathrow
Some drivers may even alter the terminus to, say Hatton Cross or Hounslow West, while the train is going on its way

Sorry I have to make an amendment. Last time I got on Southern service from London Waterloo instead of London Victoria,
so it does not have direct service between Waterloo and Gatwick Airport. The Eurostar terminus will be changed to
other place in November, I don't know how to gotta Lille from Gatwick Airport with heavy luggage after that.

I was talking about services from Victoria, not from Waterloo
All trains running to and from Waterloo are either the Eurostar or the Southwest trains
No routine Southern services will terminate at Waterloo
However, two stations away from Waterloo Southern trains may occasionally call at Clapham Junction
May I supplement your thoughts by saying that the high-speed Eurostar trains, with effective from Dec 07, will terminate at London St. Pancras instead of London Waterloo with 3 intermediate stations (Stratford, Ebbefleet, Ashford)
If you intends to make your way from Gatwick to St. Pancras for catching the Eurostar trains, you may take the Gatwick Express to Victoria first, then ride on the Victoria Line to King's X St. Pancras
The Eurostar platforms should be within a walking distance
Say if you gonna land at Heathrow
You still have to take the Heathrow Express to Paddington, then take either the Circle Line or the Hammersmith & City Line via a number of stations to King's X St. Pancras
