Changes to CityRail fares

Changes to CityRail fares were approved today by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART). From Sunday 2 July, one-way fares will increase by 2.9 per cent - in line with CPI - and off peak discounts will decrease by nine per cent from 39 to 30 per cent.

The IPART process involved a call for public submissions as well as public hearings involving RailCorp, non-government organisations and commuter representatives.

The table below will give you an indication of the changes in price.

You are looking at a product that might eventually never come to live, a few weeks ago the govt has announced that the T-card project won't be active at least until 2010, almost 15 years later than the same ERG project for the Octopus in HK! By saying that, it sounds like there will NEVER be T-card.

Back to the topic, it is quite unacceptable to grant Cityrail a fare rise, where their service has just kept on shrinking year after year. All this is caused by an incompetent screwed up government.
