That was partly the consequence of the purchase of Metroline by Comfort
Delgro, the owner of SBS Transit, in 2001(?). That year, Metroline managed
to retain the contract to operate the 113 and another route, probably the 240.
Since the new contract at that point only specified standard floor double deckers
to be used, the idea of shipping the mid-aged conventional Volvo Olympians
from SBS was considered. SBS7251Y went to Metroline as a pilot vehicle, and
became AV39.
At the end, a batch of VPL-class B7TL/Presidents (VPL195(?)-236) was ordered
for both routes instead, and AV39 became, obviously, the only one which made
its way to Metroline.
